Meet Rachel

Born and raised in Reston, now a resident of Loudoun County, Rachel began her career as a REALTOR® after nearly two decades of teaching. Assisting friends and fellow community members on their real estate journeys, she quickly drew parallels from her experience in the classroom. 

While working with a widow parting with her home of 54 years, Rachel learned the tasks and challenges did not mirror those of other home sales. Downsizing or selling a family home can be emotionally exhausting and often includes different considerations and types of support. Shortly thereafter Rachel learned of the Senior Real Estate Institute (SREI) where she earned the Certified Senior Housing Professional (CSHP) credential. 

Preparation to become a CSHP involves coursework and a business blueprint (akin to a portfolio). Examples of tasks for the blueprint are hosting a focus group, touring and creating a directory of senior communities, meeting with other senior-focused professionals, demographic research, reading a dissertation, and gathering recommendation letters from clients and colleagues. After submitting the blueprint and application, and passing the exam, candidates are interviewed by a panel. Candidates must be highly endorsed, proficient in complexities of a late-life move, and be caring and compassionate advocates.

As a result of the training, Rachel established the Downsizers Club, which provides resources and support to mature homeowners.  She also regularly conducts a Downsizing Made Easy seminar and launched a new course titled Moving Mom & Dad. Empowering and encouraging others involves the same care and attention she provided to students and their families in Northern Virginia since 2001. 

When not working others to achieve their home goals, Rachel can be found with her family. She is an active daughter, wife, mom, bonus mom, and pup mom.
